The Future of DB2 Connect - Part 2

Leon Katsnelson, IBM

Abstract:

DB2 Connect has been turning DB2 for z/OS mainframe databases in to enterprise scale database servers

since 1994. Since its initial introduction it has evolved a great deal and is now relied by almost every

DB2 for z/OS customer to deliver access to the data in a securely and with great performance. DB2 Connect

has also evolved to provide great application development facilities to allow DB2 for z/OS to become the

database of choice for leading edge applications built on Java, .NET, PHP Ruby on Rails and using industry

standard web services. This will be a highly interactive session that will help you understand how to get

the most out of DB2 for z/OS in these environments, become familiar with these technologies and understand

the direction that IBM is pursuing.

Biography:

Leon Katsnelson works at the IBM Toronto Laboratory where he manages a team of Product Managers

responsible for the IBM Data Servers. Leon has over 23 years of IT experience 15 of which he spent

working on DB2. Leon specializes in database application development and connectivity. Leon is a

frequent presenter and an author of several books. He is also a prolific blogger. On occasion he has

been called "the father" of DB2 Connect.

Jonathan Sloan, IBM

Biography:

Jonathan Sloan is a Senior Certified Executive Software IT Specialist, with two decades of business

intelligence experience with multi-dimensional and relational database systems. He joined IBM in 2000

and specializes in helping customers understand the application of IBM Information Management technology

to business problems. Jonathan has experience in the healthcare, financial services and consumer

packaged goods industries. He is currently the business intelligence SME and SWAT team lead for data

warehousing on System z.

 

 

SAP Business Objects Business Intelligence Offerings for DB2 Environments

Abstract:

In this session, we will explore the current product suite from SAP Business Objects and how it can

help organizations cleanse, organize, analyze, and distribute data across diverse user communities.

We will discuss DB2 specific integration points, design and deployment tips.  We will demonstrate some

of the latest technologies coming out of the SAP Business Objects labs and how they can help companies

maximize the value gained from the vast amount of information accumulated within an organization.

Biography:

Gary Bernstein has over 24 years of consulting, training and management experience in the field of

data warehousing and Business Intelligence. He is able to use his deep technical experience and diverse

business background to help clients gain the maximum business value from BI and DW technology investments.

Gary is the founder and Chairperson of the New England Business Objects User Group, founding member and

coordinator of the Boston TDWI chapter and sits on the Board of Advisors for ITT Technical Institute of

Massachusetts.

 

 

DB2 9 for z/OS Planning and Experiences

Abstract:

This session will include the following:

a. DB2 9 for z/OS technology themes including information on distributed access improvements, SQL

   enhancements, optimization, XML, and utilities.

b. Planning for DB2 9 migration (including an overview of the migration process, CPU Performance

   considerations and Access path stability).

Biography:

Jim Brogan is an IBM Certified Consulting IT Specialist. Throughout his 38+ year career, Jim has

had many roles in the IT industry including those of DBA, DBA Manager, and Database Consultant at

many large corporations including United Technologies Corp, General Electric, and Westinghouse. Jim's

Database experience includes IMS, DB2 z/OS, DB2 for LUW, and Oracle. His current responsibilities are

as an IBM DB2 Advisor providing technical support to the IBM sales team and customers for IBM DB2 z/OS

in the Northeastern United States. Jim was one of the original five founding members of the New England

DB2 Users Group.
